Slovak criminal law is part of the Slovak legal order and a branch of public law. Substantive criminal law is particularly important because it protects the rights and legitimate interests of natural and legal persons, interests of society and the constitutional order of the Slovak Republic by defining what a criminal offence is and what sanction may be imposed for committing it. This textbook focuses on fundamental concepts and institutions of substantive criminal law.
